Chetwynd Tamar League
Buckland v
Ordulph Taverners
WITH several first choice bowlers missing Ordulph felt that restricting Buckland to anything under 250 would be an achievement.
This situation was made worse when within ten overs opening bowler M Watling had to go off with a hamstring injury. To the breach came normally second string bowlers Smith and Folley who showed what can be done with steady line and length bowling by bowling 12 overs each for 58 runs.
Buckland?s opening pair showed the importance of patience with in-form M Pike (92) and G Osborne (50) steadily building the backbone of their innings.
With the removal of Osborne by Piper and danger man Rogers by Coad, it looked like the Buckland innings could be restricted to a manageable score.
However, the arrival of Waterhouse joining Pike at the crease and his subsequent quickfire 23, allowed Buckland to bolster their score to 184.
Ordulph did not get off to the best of starts, with three wickets falling in the first four overs for a paltry 10 runs.
A middle order recovery with a fine knock by Watling (38) and Tynan (19) raised the hopes of getting close to Buckland?s score.
This all but evaporated with the removal of Watling by Harris and shortly after Tynan by Pike. With no hope of reaching their target Ordulph settled for trying to get the odd batting point.
Good spells of bowling in particular from Barrett with 4 for 25 and M Pike 3 for 8, backed up by Baskerville, D Pike and Harris taking a wicket each, proved too much for the Ordulph tail which stopped wagging in the 39th over, with 103 on the board.
This week Ordulph travel to Milton Abbot.
