Carlsberg South Western League
Tavistock 3
Millbrook 1
THE Lambs welcomed back Jeff Babb and John Gosling to sit on the bench, Mark Wall and Steve Shaw turned out for the P&D side, John Hajiyianni made his Langsford Park debut and they introduced new signing Wayne Crow from Ivybridge.
The Lambs had the ball in the net within a minute but it was ruled out for offside. A minute later Tavistock keeper Andy Meeds had to palm over a Steve Simms free kick.
The Lambs found themselves a goal down after just five minutes. Slackness in defence caught them out and they conceded a free kick. Simms sent in a curling ball over the wall to leave Meeds helpless.
The Lambs had their best chance to level when Darren Halfyard sent Doncaster away but in a one-on-one situation Millbrook keeper Dave Rice blocked his effort.
The start of the second half saw Lee Doncaster find himself away from the defence but Rice denied him.
The tide turned for the Lambs on 55 minutes. Gott?s effort was fumbled by Rice for a corner and James Cole?s short kick allowed Chris Short to cross. The ball was not cleared and Halfyard pounced to smash home from an acute angle.
It was just the tonic they needed after a dismal first half. The introduction of Crow and Gosling for Hajiyianni after 65 minutes then Babb came on for Halfyard five minutes later had the desired effect.
A back-pass to Meeds saw the keeper hoist a long kick upfield that went over the Millbrook defence to allow Babb to give chase. Despite the attempts of Stephens he outpaced him delicately to chip the ball over Rice to put the Lambs in the lead.
Gosling went close minutes later but the Lambs sealed victory deep into injury time. From a corner Gott?s shot was helped on by Darren Babb for brother Jeff to stab home from close range to put a rather flattering score to the Lambs victory.
