DAZZLING their way into the local shops this week are the Tavistock Chamber of Commerce Christmas lights prize draw tickets to help raise much needed funds. Businessman Nigel Eadie told fellow members at a meeting of the chamber last Monday that £4,000 more still had to be raised. So far the chamber has received more than £4,500 from the local public and businesses, with an additional £500 from Tavistock Town Council towards the cost of the Dickensian Evening and the Christmas lights – a total cost of around £9,000. Nigel Eadie, the Chamber of Commerce treasurer, said: 'The final income will be on how many raffle tickets we sell. In total 6,000 have been printed. We have three weeks to sell 4,000 or more tickets to raise the money, which works out at more than 1,300 raffle tickets being sold per week to ensure the Chamber of Commerce can be secure.' Dickensian evening is on schedule and set for Friday, December 1, and will include singers, dancers and two bands performing on the night – spreading their acts throughout the town. The chamber has been sponsored by Lloyds TSB for two 20ft banners to advertise the event. One will go across Bedford Square, and the place of the second banner has yet to be decided. The raffle tickets, on sale at £1 each, are available from Lawsons, Georgina's Pet Shop, Towls, PL19, and Kountry Kit. The draw prizes include a 32" flat screen TV, two Christmas hampers, a magnum of champagne, two cases of wine, menswear, a coffee machine and much more. Town crier Bob Rose and his wife Shirley, along with another fellow crier will be doing a town collection on Friday, November 24, from 11am to 2pm to help raise additional funds. The draw will take place on Monday, December 4, and the prize winners will be notified by Friday, December 15.
