A NEW landmark bridge dedicated to the memory of one of Devon's most famous former residents, Sir Francis Drake, opened yesterday (Wednesday) in Tavistock. The £332,000 bridge for cyclists and walkers across the River Tavy at Crowndale was opened by chairman of Devon County Council. The project was funded by Devon County Council, the South West RDA and the European Regional Development Fund and forms a critical link in the development of Drake's Trail — the national cycle network from Tavistock to Plymouth.
