DESPITE overnight and early morning downpours last Sunday, a dozen intrepid cyclists completed the 20-mile charity ride from Yelverton to Coy Pool, Plympton, and back.

The cycle, organised by Mhairi McCall of the 5x30 Project and Vicki Lloyd of Tavi Riders, was a fundraiser for Tavi Riders, who are working hard to raise money to build their new BMX park in the town.

Phil Baker of West Devon Borough Council led the ride and Hannah Colston, sports development officer, was one of the cyclists.

West Devon mayor Alison Clish-Green and Tavistock mayor Mandy Govier, accompanied by her canine consort Ben, braved the cold winds to start the event.

The riders were then given pasties at the Red and Black Club, donated by Tavistock Community Football Club, to help them regain their energy levels.

Mhairi expressed thanks to the sponsors and supporters who made the ride possible.

She said: 'Hopefully more cycle events will be organised after the worst of the winter is over, when more participants will be encouraged to take part.'
