A GROUP of students from Okehampton College has just returned from a successful expedition in Wales?s Black Mountains. The students were all working towards the expedition section of their Duke of Edinburgh silver award. The three-day challenge started at Capel Y Fen, headed over Bal-Mawr, and ended in Gudder on the first day. The second day took them over the third and fourth highest peaks in South Wales, to camp at Grafog. On the third day, due to torrential rain, thunder, and lightning, the group had to follow a foul weather route through the Grwyne Fechan finishing in Llanbeder. Wild country assessor Chris Bourne, who led the group on their expedition, said that they had all done very well and deserved congratulations for completing the challenge in such appalling conditions. Pictured above, left to right, are Matt Dennis, Michael Aylen, Alex Wooldridge, Zoe Grout, Becca Jarvis, Sally Dixon and Sam Woodhams.
