PART of the playpark in Tavistock?s Meadows has been closed, after an accident involving a young child on Monday evening.
Firecrews were called to the park at about 5.50pm, after a little girl became trapped under the roundabout.
Station officer Tim Smith said: ?She?d been pushing other children on the roundabout but she got her foot caught underneath it and the momentum of the roundabout dragged her round with it.?
Mr Smith said the little girl was ?quite traumatised? by the incident ? although she quickly calmed down once she was released and given a ?Trauma Ted? ? a small teddy bear which firefighters keep with the fire engines to help lessen children?s distress during incidents.
?She was a very brave little girl,? said Mr Smith.
Town clerk Roger Howard said the roundabout was only installed in the Meadows about 18 months ago, following petitions and letters from families requesting the popular piece of play equipment.
He said: ?We can?t understand it. All our play equipment is inspected by RoSPA annually and by our staff weekly ? and recorded as such. It?s modern, tested equipment that complies with all health and safety standards.?
Col Howard said the roundabout would be out of use until the firm which installed it had checked it over and RoSPA officials had inspected it once more.
