South West Peninsula League division one East Newton Abbot 3 Okehampton 0 ARGYLE frustrated their opponents during the first 45 minutes of this game, with the Newton Abbot coach screaming instructions from the touchline and disappointed that his team could not find a way through the determined attitude that Argyle displayed. With Newton sitting nicely at the top of the league and Okehampton struggling at the other end you would have expected to see the homeside dominate play, but this was not the case and for long periods of the first half Argyle were equal to their opponents ? and with a little bit of luck might have gone into the interval ahead. The second half started with both sides working hard to create chances and at this point the contest was wide open with play flowing from end to end. Newton took the lead on the hour when their number eight picked the ball up inside the area and turned quickly to fire into the net; within five minutes Newton were two up when the ball was spread wide to the right and a good delivery found their centre forward lurking on the back post to head cleanly into the net. Argyle did well to keep the score respectable at this point because Newton started to play with a lot more belief and really pressured Argyle into submission. Keeper Daniel Malcolm pulled off a superb save when the Newton centre forward struck a good shot that was heading for the top corner until Malcolm got a glove to it, sending the ball over the bar. Argyle conceded a third when their opponents number 8 weaved his way through the Argyle defence and picked out good cross that found their centre forward in space to pick his spot. l Next week Argyle are at home to high flying Budleigh Salterton. Kick off 2.15pm.
