Tavistock's group included Exmouth, Plymstock and Cullompton.
Exmouth U9s . . . . . . . . . . . .5
Tavistock U9s . . . . . . . . . . .30
Tavistock started really strongly, their rucking game proving far too strong for Exmouth. Henry Kisby, Frasier Bayliss and Felix Davies were irrepressible in the mauls, turning over possession numerous times and releasing Tavistock's backs. Try scorers were Rhys Davis (2), Sam Northmore (2), Jonty Newton and Henry Salmon.
Plymstock U9s 0
Tavistock U9s 15
Plymstock competed strongly for the first quarter but again Tavistock's powerful running with Conner Williams and Jamie Stephens playing superbly, proved decisive. Scorers were Rhys Davis, Jonty Newton and William Colton.
Cullompton U9s . . . . . . . . . 0
Tavistock U9s . . . . . . . . . . . .5
This was a very strongly fought contest albeit with most of the play taking part in Cullompton's half. Eventually Tavistock's Sam Northmore powered over for the winning try.
Semi-finals
Torquay Athletic U9s . . . . . 6
Tavistock U9s . . . . . . . . . . .10
Torquay had already knocked out favourites Ivybridge in the previous round and were highly fancied.
Tavistock however played with commitment, belief and skill going in at half-time 10-0 up with tries from Rhys Davis and Sam Northmore. The second half was mostly dogged defence which Torquay could only breach once. Tavistock held out for a famous win.
Final:
Kingsbridge U9s . . . . . . . . 20
Tavistock U9s . . . . . . . . . . .10
By now the playing conditions were appalling. Tavistock were very cold, wet and tired. They went in at half time 15-0 down.
In the second half Tavistock's determination kept them going with Aiden Mason, Thomas Russon and Jonathon Parsons all playing well.
Eventually the pressure brought rewards with Rhys Davis and William Colton pulling two tries back. Kingsbridge ran out deserved winners 20-10.
The whole squad should be proud of the way they played and represented the Tavistock club.
All can now look forward to next season.
