GUNNISLAKE WI celebrated its 80th birthday in style in the public hall last Wednesday. The room looked festive with posies of flowers on snowy white tablecloths provided by ladies of the group. A magnificent birthday cake, decorated with the branch logo was made by Hazel Kinger. More than 60 ladies enjoyed sandwiches, home-made cakes and scones with local strawberries! Agnes Thomas, a member of many years and  former member Eve Verdier, 95, cut the celebration cake. Seven former presidents were presented with buttonhole posies. County chairman Nan Collier and county treasurer Marilyn Legget travelled from Truro to attend. Nan reminded members of many everyday things taken for granted now were unknown in 1928 when the WI branch was formed. Entertainment was provided by Charmian Dyson, Maureen Ross and Freddie Robinson, who each read an amusing poem —this was followed by a short play 'A Greek Tragedy' which was very funny and not such a tragedy after all! Ladies then enjoyed reminiscing over the WI scrapbooks and reading the many greeting cards. Guests from St Dominick WI and Albaston WI and the county  adviser gave votes of thanks.
