OKEHAMPTON and Hatherleigh NFU is calling on shoppers in the area to boycott French produce 'wherever possible' over the Christmas and New Year period.
Chairman of the branch James McInnes said the members would not be holding a protest over the festive period because it was a stressful time for shoppers but they hoped people would continue to be aware of the affect France's ban on British beef was having on farmers.
'It is most important that we give a clear message to France that their behaviour is totally unacceptable,' he said.
The local NFU branch has been very active in encouraging people to boycott French produce since France's refusal to lift the ban in September despite an EU ruling that it was safe.
Several peaceful protests have been held outside Somerfield supermarket in Okehampton and the people of the town and surrounding area have been praised for their support.
