A young boy from Milton Abbot walked more than 11 miles across Dartmoor on Sunday to raise money for charity in memory of a classmate who tragically passed away from cancer.

Henry Vanstone, eight, walked from Postbridge back to his mum’s farm shop at Lydford along the historic Lych Way, a distance of 11.5 miles.

He undertook the challenge to remember classmate Seth Baker, who was at school with him at Milton Abbot Primary School.

Henry was accompanied by his dad Blair Vanstone, godfather Tim Lowe and friend Ollie Cox. Another friend, Alfie Knight met the group along the way to give Henry a bit of moral support.

Henry’s mum Marcia said her son had already raised £1,250 for charity Sue Ryder, which provides bereavement as well as neurological and palliative care.

Marcia said: ‘Henry wanted to do something postive to help the Baker family. Henry attends Milton Abbot School and Seth who has previously been in Henry’s class at school sadly passed away. It is a really difficult thing to explain to a child, they can’t get their head around what has happened. This way he has been able to do something postive. The walk went well.’
