TAVISTOCK Short Mat Bowling Club players faced Callington Bowling Club on Saturday in a four rink match played in the gymnasium at Tavistock College. The match ended in a 90-78 victory for the Tavistock teams after each club won two rinks. Tavistock skip Jessie Swift and her team of Vic Stacey, Brenda Dennett and Geoff Cork, won their first game 12-3 and then scraped home by one shot (9-8) in their second match to achieve an overall 21-11 winning scoreline. Skip Betty Browse and team of Tom Percival, Barry Chappell and Marlene Paramor, won their first game 18-5. They lost their second game 10-13, to give them a 28-18 overall winning score. Skip Norman Paramor and his crew of Shirley Blackburn, Viv Powell-Thomas and John Dunkeld lost their first game 4-14. They recovered to win their second encounter 14-8, but it was not enough and they finished having lost 18-22 overall. Skip Bill Ashe and his squad of Bob Powell-Thomas, Amy Emsley and Sandra Ashe finished the afternoon having lost 23-27, after they drew their first game 10-10 and lost 13-17 in their second match, thanks to their opponents picking up six shots on the last end of the game.
