I WRITE in response to the letter (October 13) from Mr Ted Cann where he mentioned West Devon Borough Council?s policy on providing workspace. I?m pleased to be able to tell Mr Cann that the borough council has met with representatives of the Devon Heartlands Community Forum, and the forum is very much aware, following very useful discussions, of what the council?s policy is on providing workspace in the Okehampton area. The council is currently working with the South West Regional Development Agency to provide infrastructure to the new employment land at Exeter Road, Okehampton and to secure funding for a managed workspace development on that site. We have also discussed the current lack of opportunities in North Tawton and Chagford and it was agreed that Devon Heartlands Community Forum would help investigate ways of overcoming this. Mr Cann also mentioned the current situation at the Heinz Frozen Food factory at Okehampton. I met with the local management at Heinz following its recent announcement that it was now up for sale, and I am confident that the factory has a positive future ahead. Cllr Jayne Hill Mayor of West Devon
