TAVISTOCK Area Support Services has been chosen to pilot a new government initiative to deliver services to those over 55 living in West Devon. The charity's continuous development of services for this age group has been recognised by Devon County Council, with the charity being one of four areas within Devon awarded the new initiative. Andy Lyle, general manager of TASS, said: 'We are thrilled to be awarded this initiative, it will mean we at TASS will be able to develop existing services, as well as deliver new services. 'Over the last twelve months we have extended our services, increasing the number of Drop in Centres, as well as the activities at The Anchorage Centre. We have also increased our transport provision with the use of a third vehicle. '2007 will also see new initiatives, with the introduction of new activities at our Drop Ins. 'Transport always in a rural area is important and with support of both West Devon Borough and Devon County Council, we will be taking delivery of a new 15 seater, wheelchair accessible bus in early March. This will complement our existing transport provision of three wheelchair accessible vehicles, Hospital Visiting and Volunteer Car Service.' The highlight for TASS this month is the opening of a Table Tennis Club at The Anchorage Centre today (Thursday) from 2pm to 4pm. Services at TASS are delivered by volunteers and the charity is always looking for people to help with driving, enabling and supporting groups. Anyone who enjoys meeting new people should contact Andy Lyle on 01822 616958 for more information.
