OKEHAMPTON Battle of the Bands received a boost from Okehampton Town Council recently, receiving a donation of £800 to help with the costs of the event.

Mayor Cllr The Rev Mike Davies and Cllr Tony Leech presented event organiser Chris Hodgson with the cheque on Monday September 10.

Chris Hodgson said: 'Without the support of Okehampton Town Council, the Hamlets parish council and Okehampton United Charity, the Battle of the Bands would just not go ahead, so we are incredibly grateful to them.

'It is a partnership and really provides something great for the town.'

The competition enjoyed a great year in 2012, with more than 1,000 people going to Simmons Park for the Party in the Park finale in August.
