MIDDLEMOOR resident Rosie Jackson captured on camera these cows tucking into a tasty treat — from the roadside salt bin!
Rosie said she watched the cows lift the lid on the bin from her cottage on Sunday and enjoy the contents inside.
'I do hope that Devon County Council will replenish the bin when we ask for "more, please" in the winter,' she said, with a smile on her face.
Dispensary nurse Martin Osborne from Westmoor Vets in Tavistock said cows found salt palatable and often licked it off the roads in the winter.
'Cows are given salt-lick, which is like a mineral bar, in times of harshness when they are not getting decent grain,' he said. 'It is a mineral replacement.'
But he added that too much pure salt from a salt bin was not a good idea and if anyone saw the lid up on a salt bin they should close it.
