The Bohemians' season continued to gain pace with a massive victory in their top of the table clash against a strong Lewdown side.

Skipper Jez Stokes asked the visitors to bat on a well prepared track at a sunny Langton Park. After some tidy opening overs, K Harris (27) and E Squire (28) began to dominate.

Chris Pearson entered the attack and with Geoff Brain took the pace off the ball and applied some serious control. Three wickets fell on 59 and the Lewdown innings never really recovered. J Gliddon batted patiently for the top Lewdown score of 29 but regular wickets fell to maintain the Bohemians' control. Geoff Brain starred with 11-40-4 closely followed by Chris Pearson, 9-39-3. Rob Bennett took the last two wickets in two balls to wrap up the innings after just 31 overs.

The Lewdown opening attack started reasonably well and at 29 for 2 after eight overs Yelverton knew they would have to work hard.

Ian Loze and Rob Bennett both batted with confidence, with Rob Bennett driving imperiously through the covers on several occasions.

Two wickets fell in the 18th over with the score on 72 and later at 101 for 6 Lewdown sensed an unlikely comeback victory.

Charlie Hughes bowled well in a lively spell, 4-23-2, and Rob Bennett batted extremely well for his 33 before top-edging a pull in P Yeo's second spell. Yeo bowled extremely well during his second stint, taking full advantage of the conditions with some short aggressive bowling.

The fall of the sixth wicket brought Jez Stokes out to join Geoff Brain, two experienced campaigners. Stokes did not let the Lewdown bowlers dominate and with a few drives and cuts finished on 31 no, hitting the winning runs with 27 of the allotted 61 overs remaining. The unflappable Geoff Brain ended 23 no and once again had contributed massively to this victory.

This was a well-fought match between two strong sides played in a competitive and good-natured spirit.

It was a disappointing result for Lewdown but they stay second in the league as Hatherleigh lost to Whitchurch.
