EAST Cornwall ultra-distance runner Bob Brown was this week almost forced to abandon the third leg of his bid to run around the world because of a painful ankle injury. Bob, 36, from Stoke Climsland, set off on August 2 from the Atlantic coast of Portugal to run 4,300 miles across Europe in 80 days. Luke Fox from Bob?s back-up team said Bob had carried the ankle injury into this expedition and it worried him for the first few days. ?He has admitted at times he was close to calling it a day,? said Luke. ?However his fitness has returned and having made up time, Bob is now turning in days of 55 miles a day.? Luke said confidence was high as they approached the French border but Bob was adamant that this was by far his toughest test. He is running solo, with only a back-up team for support, which includes his wife Amy. This is the penultimate quarter of the runner?s transcontinental marathon ? he has already run the length of Australia and North America, tallying 6,000 miles, but his run across Europe will be the longest. The school teacher will run his final leg across Asia next year and realise his dream of becoming the original globetrotter ? the first person to cover the earth?s circumference on foot. .
