A BLIND women will be setting off with her guide dog from Okehampton today (Thursday) as she nears the end of her sponsored walk along the Tarka Trail. Three years ago, Tilly Trotter raised £8,600 for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association when she walked the 150-mile Tarka Trail. Now she is undertaking the walk again, this time to mark the 75th anniversary of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Tilly, 72, started her two-week trek with guide dog Kendal from Barnstaple on Thursday, August 17. She arrived in North Tawton on Monday (August 28) and following a rest day on Tuesday, set off from the town?s rugby club yesterday (Wednesday) to arrive in Okehampton. After leaving Waitrose car park in Okehampton this morning, she will head onto Hatherleigh, she aims to complete the walk next Monday. Last time, Tilly was accompanied by her guide dog Dalby plus two 14-year-old sighted guides. Dalby has now retired and so will watch the event from one of the support vehicles. Tilly said: ?When Dalby was ill during 2005 Guide Dogs were so supportive. ?He and I were treated with great compassion. Dalby had an operation at the Small Animal Trust in Newmarket and his life was saved. He can no longer guide but can enjoy retirement with us. ?I just want to say thank you to the Guide Dogs and help to make it possible for others to have a great dog like mine.? Tilly is walking an average of 10 miles a day and covering the Tarka Trail in the reverse direction to last time. Tilly welcomes any supporters who would like to join her, Kendal and her 14-year-old grandson, for a day or just for a few miles. For more information about the walk or making a donation, you can contact walk organisers Jack Wilkins on 01884 840200 or Tony Trotter on 01884 840179.
