Clyst Rovers 1

Tavistock AFC 2

TAVISTOCK came away from Clyst with all three points in a game they should have won more comfortably than the score line shows.

The Lambs were quick out of the blocks and dominated Clyst in the first quarter of the game.

As early as the second minute the Lambs threatened the host's goal when a free kick from Blatchford clipped the bar.

Three minutes later Adam Carter hit the post from 18 yards, a minute later Glyn Hobbs shot over when well placed. Shortly afterwards a Pethick free kick was headed to Dave Hallett who shot over from 12 yards.

The hosts then gradually clawed their way back into the game, but it was the visitors who continued to create the scoring chances. A flowing move between Pethick , Bailey and Carter set up Hobbs, but his shot was well saved by Moyse in the Clyst goal.

In a rare attack on the Lambs goal and against the run of play, Clyst took the lead in the 41st minute. Matt Micklewright latched on to a Scott Dodgson pull back from the dead ball line, to score from six yards.

In the 54th minute the Lambs equalised, a foul on Ben Davis allowed Lee Blatchford to unleash one of his trade mark free kicks from 30 yards, which flew into the top corner of the net, giving Nicky Moyse no chance.

Clyst were also a more attacking force in the second period, but the visitors defence looked a solid unit and dealt with any raids on their goal.

The Lambs thought they had taken the lead in the 70th minute when from a Blatchford corner kick, Will Stringer's header from four yards was superbly saved by the Clyst keeper.

Shortly afterwards from another corner kick Matt David at the far post made no mistake and sent a free header into the roof of the net.

Although the Lambs were not at their best, a bumpy playing surface was not suited to their passing game, to be fair to Clyst they battled and played some really good football at times, which belies their lowly league position, and they will cause teams problems at Waterslade Park

This result keeps the Lambs in fifth position in the league table with a game in hand.
