TONY Blair's decision to resign scuppered the showing on terrestial TV of a programme about a Gunnislake couple who decided to change their lifestyle. Irene Lamy and partner Ryan Rodgers were due to feature on Channel 4's 'Life Begins Again' about people over 40 who bring about a change in their lives. Irene said: 'It was on every weekday for 30 days and ours was the only 45-minute programme not shown as Tony Blair announced his resignation on that day.' Irene was told it was shown on cable television, but had not met anyone locally who had seen that. 'Part of it was filmed in the Tavistock Arms in Gunnislake and we went there and all commiserated with one another.' The couple are waiting to hear if the programme will be rescheduled. Irene and Ryan moved to Cornwall in February 2006 and bought a bungalow with 18-acres in Gunnislake with the aim of breeding Alpacas and producing fruit and vegetables. They occasionally have a stall in Tavistock pannier market where they sell home-made chutneys, made from their own produce. Irene also makes small soaps. In the South East, Irene worked for Shell and Ryan for a fine art gallery and wanted to move from the rat-race and do something different with their lives. The couple have eight alpacas, having had two baby alpacas born last year. They have erected a polytunnel and are growing tomatoes, chillis, sweet peppers and aubergines to turn into pickles and chutneys. 'We love being here. It is hard work and a completely different lifestyle. If something needs doing you just do it, even if it is at ten o'clock at night. But it is very rewarding,' Irene said.
