APRIL snow showers didn't stop the ladies of Okehampton Golf Club enjoying their lady captain's tea and competition. The format was somewhat different with the ladies playing a 'drawn mystery aggregate Stableford.' Everyone played an individual 16 hole stableford, with the luxury of one free tee shot if needed. If this was not used then they could add 2 points onto their score. When everyone had played, the cards were put into Silver and Bronze divisions, then a draw was made and the scores added together. The winners were Sally Griffin on 36 points and Kath Mansell 28 (64 total), second were Kay King 31 and Eileen Piper 29 (60 total). The best individual prizes ( for those not in the team prizes) were Lin Atkinson, silver 32, and winning the bronze was Gladys Thatcher on 30. Nearest the pin on the seventh was Mary Keir, on the 12th was Sylvia Caunter and the longest drive was Lin Atkinson. Saturday saw the men playing a qualifying medal. The scoring was excellent, with division one being won by Nick Heath gross 73 net 62, second was Jim Butcher 72 net 63. Division two was won by Eddy Moriarty gross 78 net 61, second Graham Milford gross 77 net 62. Kerry Skinner won division three with net 59 while second was Adrian Rice net 65. The ladies also played a medal on Wednesday and the scoring was close. Winning the silver division on the back nine was Jane Warren, net 75, from Kath Mansell with Pam Jarman. The bronze division was won by Sally Griffin net 74 and second was Maureen Willcocks with a net 79.
