CHILDREN, staff and parents of Whitchurch Primary School gathered to celebrate the official opening of the school's impressive new bike shed and scooter rack last Thursday.

The ribbon was cut by mayor of Tavistock Cllr Philip Sanders before the children raced to store their bikes away in the new safe and dry shed.

The new shed and scooter store were funded jointly by Devon County Council, Whitchurch School Association, the Government Green Fund and a donation from Tavistock's Devon County councillor Debo Sellis' locality budget.

Thanks were expressed to Cllr Sellis, who has worked closely with the school to promote green projects, including recycling, eco warriors, water harvesting and a gardening club, and to parent Rachel Harrison-French, whose drive and enthusiasm enabled the project to happen.

The children, staff and parents all enjoyed a cyclists' breakfast after the opening, with food donated by Lidl.
