A COMMUNITY well-being event brought organisations and people together in North Tawton last Friday. An impressive 30 groups attended the event organised by West Devon Community and Voluntary Service, in partnership with the Transitions Project as part of Wiser£money.
The event on April 27 offered a chance for families and young and elderly people to find out more about their local services. There were stalls relating to health, energy, learning, arts, keeping safe, local plans, benefits and money advice, housing, conservation and befriending.
There were also leaflets and boards from other groups who were not able to attend.
All afternoon the atmosphere was buzzing as members of the public called in to find out about their local community groups and services.
Many connections were made and strengthened, and armed with a useful list of everyone’s contact details, local residents went away cheered and inspired to become further involved in their community.
The highlights of the afternoon were the entertainment provided by the children of North Tawton Community Primary School’s choir and line dancers Ten Tors Western Dancers. Delicious cakes and refreshments were donated by the local Spar store and the Friends of North Tawton Surgery.
The organisers described it as a 'a very successful and enjoyable event'.
'Events like this are being held across West Devon and Torridge to help people find out what is available locally and provide inspiration to take up new activities, make new friends and offer an opportunity to have their voices heard,' said a spokeswoman for West Devon CVS.
