RESIDENTS of West Devon are being encouraged to dust off their cycles and get involved in the NSPCC's big family fundraiser at the end of June. The charity's big bike ride is now in its third year and thousands of people are expected to take up the challenge to help create a better future for children by joining in one of the many rides being staged across the country, or organising one themselves. The weekend of June 27 to 29 is when the events take place. They range from a cycle round the local park to a static bike ride at the gym or motorcycle events. NSPCC services in Devon include the Devon Child Protection Centre and the Devon and Cornwall Young Witness Service, which cost £733,580 to run each year. ChildLine Southwest in also based in Devon. Community fundraising manager Donna Statham said: 'Any amount, large or small, will make a real difference to vulnerable children and young people in the county. 'For example £15 pays for five calls to ChildLine to be answered by a trained counsellor and £158 pays for an after school group session, providing a safe place for up to eight children.'
