THE 4th Tavistock Brownies celebrated their 60th year of Girl Guiding earlier this month (October).

The unit has met weekly at the Methodist Church in Tavistock since 1956 and it is currently run by Tamsin Hopkins.

The Brownies welcomed former leader of more than 40 years Kate Harding to the celebration along with an archive of history and memories from her time with the 4th Tavistock Brownies, including uniforms dating back to 1914, an impressive collection of interest badges, handbooks and photographs.

The girls have been building up to the special anniversary this term and have exercised their artistic talents, each preparing a panel for a commemorative wall hanging, which will be displayed in the Methodist Church.

Assistant leader Melissa Taylor has been working towards her leadership qualification and was presented with her certificate and badge at the celebration. Melissa was an attendee of the unit, making her promise in 1996.

Girl Guiding is run entirely by volunteers and welcomes new interest. To get involved visit the website www.girlguiding.org.uk
