Penryn 13

Tavistock 24

TAVISTOCK travelled to table toppers Penryn on Saturday and recorded a great victory with probably their best performance of the season.

This victory keeps Tavistock well in the promotion hunt with Penryn, Truro, Okehampton and Crediton, and with just four games remaining the decision is likely to go to the wire.

Tavistock dominated in all aspects except the set scrum, where Penryn caused problems, but as the game wore on the Tavistock pack more than held their own.

After a scrappy opening period Tavistock opened the scoring when after some good approach work fly half James Kaminski broke through a tackle to score close to the post. He converted his own try.

Penryn hit back five minutes later with a try from centre Matt Biggins, who went through a non-existent Tavistock defence to score under the posts. Full back Taron Peacock converted.

Back came Tavistock to regain the lead. Some powerful driving work by the forwards provided ball for Kaminski to glide around the Penryn defence to score. He again converted his own try.

Immediately from the restart Tavistock spilled the ball and were forced to concede a penalty that Taron Peacock converted to make the half time score 14–10.

Early in the second half Tavistock scored their third try which took them two scores ahead. Second row forward Andy Hunt did the hard work, driving deep into Penryn territory and when the ball was recycled No 8 Jake Phillips finished off the move crashing over on the right. Kaminski converted.

Penryn reduced the deficit on the hour with a second Peacocok penalty only for Kaminski to restore the margin of lead with a penalty for Tavistock.

In the final quarter Penryn threw everything at Tavistock but the defence held firm.
