THE Dartmoor Inn at Lydford has won the title South West Public House of the Year 2004 at the Taste of the West Food and Drink awards ceremony.

The ceremony took place in Wells earlier this month. The inn had been put forward for the regional competition after winning the Devon area award.

Karen Burgess of the Dartmoor Inn said: ?We are absolutely delighted. We lnew we were going to be inspected and the next thing we knew we received a letter saying we had won a gold medal and were being put forward for the top prize of Best in the West.

?We?re very happy about it ? particularly because it?s a local award and that means a lot. The whole team have worked extremely hard to deserve this.?

This year?s awards attracted record entries from food and drink producers and hospitality establishments from all over the South West.

West Devon food and drink producers who won awards included Browne?s Chocolates of Throwleigh, who won two silver and two gold awards; Devonshire Farmhouse Ice Cream of Chagford, who won bronze; the Valley Creamery of North Tawton, who won silver; the Black Farmer, who also won silver; and the Dartmoor Kitchen of Okehampton, who won bronze, silver and two golds. Percys Country Hotel and Restaurant of Virginstow won a bronze award.
