TAVISTOCK Bowling Club men?s and mixed teams? run of 14 consecutive victories came to an end at Bere Alston on Sunday when they lost 68-84 after winning only one of the four rinks played.
Club captain Brian Preece led his rink of Patricia Hoar, Shirley Blackburn and Marlene Paramor to a 20-17 victory, while skip Norman Paramor and his team of Hazel Lovell, Ian Mellor and Ernie Piper lost 15-20.
Skip Yvonne Meneer and her team of George Blackburn, Wendy Bloomer and Barry Chappell went down 20-29 and skip Marion Allen and her squad of Ray Meneer, Henry Lovell and Ray Moore suffered a 13-18 defeat.
A similar fate awaited the Tavistock mixed team which travelled to Yealmpton on Wednesday, where they lost the four-rink match 65-94 after being beaten on three rinks and drawing the fourth.
Skip John Smith steered his team of Gordon Northey, Henry Lovell and Ann Brown to a hard earned 21-21 draw, but skip Ron Cooper and his team of Rat Moore, Ian Mellor and Valerie Southern lost 10-30.
Skip Hazel Lovell and her crew of Walter Meek, Wallace Northey and Barry Chappell went down 18-21 and skip Brian Preece saw his beam of Bill Ashe, Joan Northey and David Perry lose 16-22.
Friday?s visit to Topsham, by a mixed team, ended in a 94-65 victory for Tavistock who won four of the six rinks played.
Skip Jill Lacayo and her team of Norman Paramor, Gordon Northey and Ray Meneer achieved a comprehensive 32-14 win with the help of a seven-shot victory on the 19th end and skip Roy Northam steered his team of John Smith, Wallace Northey and Jenny Aldridge to a 22-13 victory.
Skip Colin Tremaine and his squad of Yvonne Meneer, Albert Townsend and Shirley Blackburn won 21-13, while skip Malcolm Bloomer led his team of Betty Browse, George Blackburn and Marlene Paramor to a 17-15 win.
Skip Rob Bowhay and his squad of Jenny Tremaine, Walter Meek and Brian Preece, let victory slip away when, after leading 15-13 at the 17th end, they dropped eight shots on three of the remaining four ends to lose 17-21.
Skip Stuart Doidge and his team of Joan Northey, Tony Coombs and Jean Flay fared little better when winning only six of the 21 ends to go down 28-7.
The ladies? section league matches against a Civil Service team and Plymstock Birds had similar results, with Tavistock winning one of the two rinks played at each game, but losing both matches overall.
Skip Yvonne Meneer led her team to victory at Civil Service and skip Jill Lacayo and her squad won their home game against Plymstock Birds.
