Palladium Builders division one Bere Alston 3 Tavistock 1 BERE Alston made it three wins out of three against spirited opposition. Tavistock looked the stronger in the opening exchanges until they were reduced to ten men following a two-footed challenge on Steve Daymond, who was taken to hospital with a broken leg on 17 minutes. Within five minutes of the restart the home side lost Zac Beesley and Adam Reid through injury, which did not help their cause but Bere Alston slowly began to wear down the ten-man visitors. Midway through the half Lee Blatchford released Chris Truscott who burst through and slotted past the keeper from ten yards but within 15 minutes Tavistock were back in the game when Cowling was felled in the penalty area after a fine run. Gary Atwood stepped up and duly slotted past goalkeeper Howells, low to his left, to equalise. Just before the break a fierce shot from Harvey was handled in the area by Mark Wall and Kev Blatchford stepped up to give the home side the lead from the spot. In the second half Bere dominated, creating many chances and they should have wrapped the game up sooner than they did. When a goal came it was one to savour as Matt Reid unleashed an unstoppable volley from 20 yards to make the game safe for the home side. Howells in the Bere goal had to be alert at the other end as he tipped a fine header over the bar. Bere continued to press and the visitors? keeper made a fine double save first from Truscott and then from Westlake. Bere Alston saw out the rest of the game for a convincing win which sees them sit at the top of the table. Home manager Paul Blatchford wished Steve Daymond a speedy recovery. l This Saturday Bere are at home to Bude in the league cup, kick-off 2.30pm.
