Devon Cricket League E division Yelverton First XI v Cullompton Yelverton made it three wins out of three with a comprehensive victory over bottom side Cullompton. Skipper Rob Guy won the toss and stuck the opposition in on a blustery, overcast day at Langton Park.  Opening bowlers Terry Stevens (3- 29) and James Harrison (2-37) had Cullompton in immediate trouble blowing away the top order with some hostile fast bowling.   Opening batsman Percy (21) hung around at one end but wickets continued to fall as medium pacers Geoff Brain (2-8) and Jez Stokes (2-38) continued the good work reducing the visitors to 98-8.  There was a late onslaught from Robson (29) and McManus (20) that pushed the total up to 138 all out. The Yelverton openers negotiated two tricky overs before tea before starting their innings again after the break when Paul Farnham was caught at cover.  In came 16 year old Rob Bennett (61) who proceeded to blast the Cullompton attack to all parts of the ground including two straight sixes.  Bennett was well supported by Geoff Brain with a patient 46 not out as they put on 116 for the second wicket before Bennett was caught near the end going for another big hit.  It was only Carthew (2-21) who picked up wickets for Cullompton.  Man of the match: Rob Bennett. Yelverton (20 points) beat Cullompton (3 points) by seven wickets l Next week Yelverton travel to East Devon to take on Halberton & Sampford Peverell. Devon Cricket Second XI League 'C' Division Kingsbridge Seconds v Yelverton Seconds v   IN this top of the table clash  Kingsbridge won the toss and had no hesitation in inserting Yelverton on a cold and blustery afternoon.  The Kingsbridge bowling attack made early inroads with opener Dan Vince falling for a duck with the score still on 0.  Ricky McDowell soon followed for a single when he was adjudged lbw and skipper Kevin Beare was also back in the pavilion after scoring a solitary boundary.  With the score on a nervous 6-3, some repair work was required and Yelverton number four Gul Khan found the perfect foil when he was joined at the crease by 16 year old Tom Watkins and they put together a solid 56 run partnership for the fourth wicket.  Watkins (25) played some delightful drives off the front foot before unluckily being bowled by a shooter.  Khan was joined at the wicket by keeper Dave Scott and they added a further 53 for the fifth wicket and were looking to accelerate when Scott (26) drove a ball to mid-off with the score on 115.  Coleman joined Khan and they added 10 before Coleman was also undone by the lack of bounce.  Khan continued to keep the Kingsbridge bowlers at bay but started to run out of partners as he lost Pearson, out lbw, and in trying to lift the scoring rate he came down the wicket to drive with the score on 133, missed and was stumped.  Adrian Hood was bowled off his pads to leave Yelverton on 133-9 and it was left to veteran pairing of Jerry Warland and Tony Carter to get the score up to a competitive total.  Warland (24) launched into some ferocious blows on both the off and leg side and was well supported by Carter (4no) in a final wicket partnership of 35 taking the score upto 168 before Warland swung and missed and lost his middle stump in the 44th over. The momentum had clearly swung in Yelverton's favour and a score of 168 was more than competitive given the wicket and atmospheric conditions. After tea, the Kingsbridge reply started badly as both Adrian Hood and Tony Carter got into their respective strides and reduced Kingsbridge to 17- 3.  Although struggling with wides as he battled into the easterly gale, Hood removed both openers and finished with a creditable 3-28 off his eight over spell.  Carter bowled unchanged up the slope and despite having two catches dropped in the slip cordon he ended up with the more than creditable figures of 14-6-28-2.  Dan Vince replaced Hood and whipped out the middle order with a spell of 3-14 off eight overs.  Pearson 0-8 off five kept things tight up the slope and Warland flushed out the tail taking 2-6.  Skipper Beare was please with the all-round good team performance especially after losing three early wickets. 'The batting of Khan, Watkins and Scott enabled us to recover from a dodgy start and Jerry and Tony's last wicket partnership was the icing on the cake giving us the extra batting point,' said Beare. 'Full credit to all the bowlers though as it was tough bowling into that breeze' added Beare. Man of the match: Gul Khan Yelverton (18) beat Kingsbridge (5) by 81 runs.  l Next week Yelverton seconds entertain Axminster thirds.  Tamar League 'B' Section Werrington fifth v Yelverton third In this top of the table clash Yelverton had seven bowlers in the team and skipper Ashleigh Phillips, winning the toss, elected to bowl. Again Matt Tonts swung and seamed his way to early gains and finished with a spell of 3 for 31 off 10 overs, being virtually unplayable at times. Matt Tamsett at the other end bowled well and was unlucky not to have got a reward, finishing with 0 for 28 off seven overs.  Allan Munton, Andy Taylor and 15 year old Will Chapman also bowled economically conceding just 42 runs between them off 11 combined overs.  Ben Spear was the pick of the bowling figures with 4- 17 (including two wickets in his first over) off six overs.  Seamer Andy Alford picked up a wicket and there was also a comical run out. However taking the final Werrington wicket proved to be elusive and Werrington finished on 146 for 9. On the whole a good performance in the field with catches by Will Chapman and Ashleigh Phillips behind the stumps. In response Yelverton openers Andy Taylor (54) and Adam King (19) made a solid start getting a 50-run opening partnership.  Progress was steady with Brian Spear adding 10 after the loss of King, to a lbw. On came 16 year old Matt Tamsett to the crease who proceeded to make a rapid 41 including three superb sixes and four fours. The innings was wrapped up by vice captain Lee Johns and skipper Phillips with four not out each, with Johns hitting the winning runs and Yelverton finished 148 for 3 for a win by 7 wickets.   Man of the match: Andy Taylor.  Yelverton thirds (19) beat Werrington fifth (5) by seven wickets and now lead the B Section table.  l Next week Yelverton thirds host St Stephens first.
