East Devon Cup

Beer Albion Seconds 6

Okehampton Argyle Thirds 4

THE thirds travelled to the coast with an experimental side for the first round of the cup. Matt Jackson made his debut in goal, Jon Carter joined the attack with Lee Coleman, and Phil Yelland started at left back. Steve Kinsey moved back to join captain Adam Griffiths in midfield.

It took ten minutes for the new formation to settle, during which Beer put away two goals. Argyle responded positively, and Kinsey scored after 18 minutes following a slick move from Richard and Will Eddy.

A further two goals were conceded and at 4-1 down it looked like Argyle's cup tie was over, but the team kept their cool and built good attacking moves from defence.

Shortly before half time Beer conceded a penalty, calmly converted by Griffiths.

Argyle came out for the second half with positive attacking football. Alan Stepto and Richard Eddy pushed forward from the back and Kinsey was awesome, dominating midfield. He scored two goals on 62 and 69 minutes to level the score at 4-4.

Argyle were under severe pressure as Beer raised their game and scored twice more to win the tie.

Man of the match: Steve Kinsey.

This Saturday, Seaton Town Thirds.
