MORE than 20 members of the Okehampton Beekeepers' Association met at the Shelly Methodist Hall in South Zeal recently, for a talk on honeybee eggs. Glyn Davis, the current editor of 'Beekeeping,' the magazine of Devon Beekeepers Association, gave the talk, his second on the subject after delivering the first part last winter. Mr Davis described to the group various different aspects of the reproductive structure in the honeybee, the reproductive process and the importance of inspecting the eggs. He also outlined the complexities in honeybee genetics and explained how different eggs develop depending on how the larva are fed. The talk was much appreciated by the beekeepers and added to their knowledge and understanding of the behaviour and functioning of their bees. After delivering his talk, Mr Davis answered a number of questions before the meeting concluded with refreshments. The next meeting takes place on Tuesday February 12 at Shelly Hall, South Zeal and will include a presentation called 'Preparing Entries for Show.'
