CLLR Govier begins her letter in the Times of July 21 with the words ?It is with great sadness that we in the market have read the recent letters regarding the use of the pannier market for community events?. What?s with the ?we?? Cllr Govier is chair of the town hall and market sub-committee which is required to communicate with traders and community users on best management of the pannier market and to this end Cllr Govier should be impartial and represent traders and users evenly. Nowhere do I see that Cllr Govier, or the council, has consulted with the community users re the use of fifth Saturdays ? only with the traders. Nowhere do I see that Cllr Govier?s sub-committee has provided a Best Value analysis, for fifth Saturday use, to the council Community groups should use the pannier market on Sundays or Mondays says Cllr Govier. If Sundays or Mondays are so good for such ?markets? why have Cllr Govier?s ?we?, the market traders, refused to hold markets on Sundays or Mondays? The market reeve has also reported that, on the day of the Antiques Roadshow, ?Market traders held a limited market on Bedford Square and this proved most successful?. If that was such a success why cannot traders trade on Bedford Square when community groups have the use of the pannier market on fifth Saturdays? The traders can also use the town hall on these days, can they not? Alex Mettler Landfall Courtenay Road Tavistock
