TO celebrate ?languages week? at Tavistock College, a series of competitions were staged to encourage as many staff and students as possible to take part. As a specialist language college the school was keen to endorse the ?European Day of Languages? on September 26 and decided to hold the week-long event. The most popular competition was ?greet the teacher?. The student who greeted the most teachers in a foreign language won an ?enormous? bar of Toblerone, sponsored by the language department. Competition was fierce and the Toblerone was hotly pursued, mainly by Year 7 students. However, the lucky winner was Beckie Allen-Ross, of Year 8. The organisers also ran a series of design competitions for the older students. The winner of the ?best international book cover? was Antonia D?Alession of Year 11, who won a £10 Waterstone?s voucher, sponsored by Latimer Trend Printing Group of Estover. The winner of the ?best international album cover? was Alice Pawlik of Year 11, who won a £10 Virgin voucher, also sponsored by Latimer Trend. The final category was ?best international style magazine? and this was won by Catherine Goswell, also of Year 11, who won a free re-style hair cut at Vaughans in Tavistock. Organisers of the event expressed thanks to all those who participated in the event to make it a success, and to the sponsors for their donations to the competitions.
