KIT Hill will be the centre of an ancient ceremony on June 23 as the community comes together to celebrate the Celtic festival of St John's Eve or Tansys Golowan in Cornish.

The ceremony, which was revived by the Old Cornwall Society, sees bonfires lit across Cornwall from Kit Hill in the east to Castle Carn Brea near Land's End to the west, on Midsummer's Eve.

This year the evening, jointly organised by the Callington Old Cornwall Society, Callington Town Council, and the Countryside Rangers of Kit Hill, will have even more to entertain the revellers before the atmospheric conclusion at 10pm when a short service in Cornish and English will end with the lighting of the beacon.

At 8pm the Calstock Rubber Band will offer welcome entertainment as people arrive at the summit. This will be followed by the Taiko Drummers of Callington Community College and fellow students of the Senior College Choir who will give a preview of part of their 2012 repertoire.

There will be a display of lanterns, Cornish dancing, an interlude by Con Brio singing group, and a second performance by the Rubber Band before the 10pm celebration.

At the finale all the groups will join in the singing of the Cornish Anthem, 'Bro Goth Agan Tasow' and 'Trelawny' along with other well known Cornish songs.

There will be a free bus from the bottom car parks, food and drinks available and special arrangements for disabled parking to ensure all can join in this spectacular and unique Cornish event.
