A LEADING councillor has urged ?vigilance? in the wake of a report from Cornwall County Council that appeared to suggest the closure of a number of primary schools. The report, accidentally published on a council website, suggested the closure and re-location of one in eight of the county?s schools. Among those listed was Gunnislake Primary with a suggestion it relocate to Delaware. The council has since told Calstock County Cllr Godfrey Smale that the plans have ?no substance?. But Mr Smale urged the community to remain vigilant. He said: ?There is not usually smoke without fire.? He said it was not the first time the threat of closure had loomed over Gunnislake Primary ? local people had banded together to fight a closure of the school before. Cllr Smale said: ?We fought hard against the council approved closure years ago. Should the need arise we will do so again. ?Gunnislake is a happy school that the community has invested a lot into. The school is enjoying a sustained period of success.? A spokesman for the county council said: ?No decisions about primary school relocation have been taken or will be taken without proper consultation.?
