WITH the summer finally here, there is no better time to
get plenty of physical activity.
I am writing to let your readers know that as well as all the
other health benefits, being physically active can help
reduce your risk of cancer.
This is why World Cancer Research Fund recommends
people aim to be active for at least half an hour a day and,
as fitness improves, they build up to an hour of moderate
physical activity or half an hour of vigorous activity.
And the good news is you do not have to go to the gym to
be considered active. Moderate activity is anything that
gets your heart beating a bit faster and can include
walking briskly or doing some types of housework such as
sweeping and vacuuming.
But despite strong scientific evidence on this, a recent
survey showed that just 43 per cent of people are aware
physical activity can reduce cancer risk.
