A N?Okehampton resident has been interviewed as part of a BBC project investigating the role of faith and religion in our lives today.

Hyder Ali Pirwany, an Ismaili Muslim, was born in Karachi and left Pakistan at the age of 19. He moved to the UK in 1961, living first in London before moving to Okehampton 19 years ago.

Mr Pirwany said he moved from London for the sake of his children: 'Devon was a more appealing, more peaceful and friendly place than London.'

He also says many people were surprised at first to hear that there were few differences between Islam and Christianity, and stressed the importance of tolerance. 'As long as you are good to each other, and enjoy each other's culture and religion and do not make it confrontational, nothing can go wrong.'
