Devon Senior Cup semi-final Bere Alston Utd 3 Morchard Bishop 2 BERE progressed to the final of the Senior Cup in front of a large crowd. Both teams gauged each other for 15 minutes and Steve Daymond should have done better with two chances that fell to him. Ben Rushall was put through but his shot was too close to the keeper. The game became bogged down in a midfield battle. In the second half Bere pressed forward with Rushall again put clear, but his shot was too close to the keeper. Bere went in front when a Mark Wheeler scorcher from a corner was charged down. Steve Daymond hit another scorcher and a defender who turned his back on the shot helped the ball further past the keeper. Morchard started to lose their cool and had a player sent off for a second yellow card. Ross Hann put Will Westlake through and he swept away and left the keeper stranded. The extra player advantage let Wheeler roam forward at will and from his pass Rushall ran clear and centred for Westlake to score. Morchard did not defend and it left gaps which Bere should have punished. Westlake beat two defenders, rounded the keeper and from a yard out tried to break the net with a right foot rocket but missed the post by a yard. This Saturday Duchy Premier home to St Newlyn East, 2.30pm kick-off.
