POLITICAL parties in West Devon and Torridge were going into top gear this week as the date for the general election was announced. Those who have so far declared their intention to stand are:- l Peter Christie, Green Party l Geoffrey Cox, Conservative l Matthew Jackson, UK Independence l Rebecca Richards, Labour l David Walter, Liberal Democrat. The constituency is held by Liberal Democrat John Burnett with a majority of 1,194. He is not seeking re-election. Polling day is Thursday, May 5. On the same day, voting will take place for elections to Devon County Council.
