BATS A team started the second half of the Plymouth and District Badminton season with a match against Devonshire.
BATS had opened the season with a match against Devonshire and were determined to get their revenge after losing the first encounter.
In the men?s doubles rubber David Harrington and Alan Berry started by taking the first game 15-5. They then went to sleep and lost the second game 2-15 but regained their form to take the third game and the rubber 15-6.
The second rubber saw David Harrington and Mike Ward play well together to take it 15-9, 15-7. The third saw Alan Berry and Mike Ward unable to continue the good start when they lost the rubber 8-15, 10-15.
In the ladies? doubles the BATS ladies were all conquering with all three rubbers going their way without the Devonshire ladies getting into double figures.
The first rubber saw Susie Povey and Frances Ward comfortably win 15-7, 15-6. The second saw Susie Povey and Lizzie Rae win easily 15-5, 15-0. The third saw Frances Ward and Lizzie Rae again win easily 15-6, 15-4.
With the mixed doubles still to play BATS knew they had won the match but wanted to gain as many rubbers as possible to keep the pressure on the team at the top of the division.
The first mixed doubles saw David Harrington and Susie Povey gradually wear down the Devonshire pair to take the rubber in two games 15-12, 15-10. The second rubber saw Alan Berry and Frances Ward share the first few points but at 3-5 down they put together a run of 27 unanswered points to take the rubber 15-5, 15-0.
The third mixed doubles was the only one BATS lost but the Devonshire pair had to work hard to take the rubber 7-15, 5-15.
At the end of the evening BATS A team were pleased to have started the second half of the season with a comprehensive 7-2 win over Devonshire.
BATS B team played Torpoint Badminton Club in division 4 of the league, with points important for both clubs - Torpoint in trying to keep in touch with the top of the division and BATS trying to get away from the bottom of the division.
In the first of the men?s doubles rubbers Ewen Rae and Mike Ward were unlucky to lose the first game 15-17 but Torpoint rallied to take the second rubber 9-15.
The second men?s doubles saw BATS Ewen Rae and Gavin Leithall take the first game of the rubber 15-8. Torpoint took the next two games 1-15, 2-15 in a complete turnaround.
The third men?s doubles saw Mike Ward and Gavin Leithall change the BAT?s fortune when they scrabbled a rubber 17-15, 15-13.
The ladies? doubles rubbers saw BATS dominant with all three rubbers going their way. All three ladies played their part with Tamsin Woodruff, Kate Povey and Glynis Hingston playing some well thought out rallies to thwart the Torpoint players.
The first mixed doubles saw Ewen Rae and Tamsin Woodruff lose the first game 4-15. The second game was close all the way through but in the end it was Torpoint who took it and the rubber 16-17. The second mixed doubles saw Mike Ward and Kate Povey play excellently to take the all important rubber 15-7, 15-7.
The final mixed doubles saw Gavin Leithall and Glynis Hingston unable to add to the score when Torpoint took the rubber 3-15, 9-15.
At the end of the evening BATS B team had gained an all important victory 5-4 over Torpoint to take then further away from the relegation zone.
