AFTER a summer of training it was finally time for the Bats club trip at the weekend. This year?s event took seven members of the club to the beautiful setting of the New Forest for the 24th half marathon. It was a very hot day with temperatures reaching the 21+ degrees mark which made the going fairly hard. The course was all on roads and was undulating with a couple of steep hills. Sufficient training meant that the Bats were able to run every step of the way. The New Forest is a very well organised event with lots of water, sponge stations and encouraging marshals. Making their half-marathon debut for the club were Mary Kelly and Pam Adams. A very well done to Sue Collins who was the first lady home in her age group. The first Bat home was Dotty Allan who achieved a course personal best and was fourth in her age group. The club was fifth overall in the team results out of a field of 12 ? so well done everyone. Finally, well done to Simon Wakeham who ran the half and Trevor Williams who ran the full marathon for Tavistock Athletics. Bats are keeping their wings crossed for a much cooler run at the Autumn Trail next week.
