BERE Alston Trekkers (Bats) celebrated their eighth birthday last week with almost a full colony and a few members of Tavistock Athletics taking part in a cross-country run which started at Norsworthy Bridge and continued across a damp and muddy moor.

There were a number of opportunities for re-grouping to enjoy the outstanding views across Burrator and a chance to count as many Tors as possible.

Over the past eight years Bats have raised £15,000 for various charities, have taken part in countless races and have now started hosting their own events.

Earlier this year saw the launch of the clubs community website which has received more than 7,000 hits and the club regularly receive emails from all over the country and beyond asking for advise and running tips.

Looking forward into 2012 the club will host the Bere Pen 10 in May, holds its first cross-country event 'the Bere Pen Foot-Dragger' and it will also host the Sport Relief mile in the village in March. Club chair Dotty Allan, would like to thank all club members, their families and the villagers for their support over the years.

Bats welcome new members throughout the year regardless of ability.
