FUNDRAISING to refurbish the Victorian school room in Bratton Clovelly started in earnest with a barbecue in the village square recently. More than 70 people of all ages supported this initial venture and over £550 was raised. Tables were set with gingham cloths and fresh flowers and the weather held dry for the occasion. There was also a bar and raffle. A further £750 has been received in donations and pledges and this money will help to cover architect?s costs. Plans for the refurbishment, which will see the building returned to a community facility, were on display during the evening. The school room restoration committee expressed thanks to everyone who gave their time and effort to the event and those who provided meat, bread, salad, wine and desserts.
