Devon & Exeter Intermediate 4
Okehampton Thirds 13
Winkleigh Reserves 0
OKEHAMPTON began with the luxury of having 11 fit players and three substitutes and were duly fired up for this local derby.
They swept into a three-goal lead inside a quarter of an hour with two from Adam Mortimer and one from Paddy Blatchford. Robbie Sandercock made it 4-0 with a shot from the edge of the area.
The goal of the game came when Ian Wilson played a ball to Tony Pickering. He found Nicky Jones on the wing and his pinpoint cross was headed home by Mortimer.
Winkleigh became demoralised and Argyle peppered their goal. Tom Riley headed home from a Dave Grimes corner. Whately came on before half-time and scored almost immediately, making it 8-0 before the break.
The second half saw Mortimer scored Argyle's ninth and his fifth and was immediately substituted for Graham Sage, whose first contribution was to cross for Whately to head home.
Tom Riley and Daniel Gibbs scored a goal apiece and the final and 13th goal came from a Whately free kick.
Argyle have two games left to play and could gain runners-up spot.
Saturday home to Crediton, meet 2.15pm.
