Twenty one runners, one walker and three cyclists went to post for the annual Bere Alston United Fun Run.

The smart money was on Rob Jinman with Dave Chanter as a very good each way bet. Club captain Will Westlake also fancied his chances of finishing in the medals — although his first concern was whether he would beat his wife Tracey. this year's only female competitor.

As the runners headed off along Crowndale Road on the six mile trek back to Bere Alston, Rob Jinman was already setting the early pace with Westlake and Dave Chanter in hot pursuit.

By the time the runners had reached Orestocks and taken on water gratefully supplied by Michele, Rob had maintained his lead with the race for the silver and bronze beginning to take shape.

With Bere Alston in sight Rob Jinman had a minute lead over Westake and he held on to the finish to take gold in a time of 37 mins 59 secs.

Will Westlake achieved a personal best to win silver in 39.14 with Dave Chanter third in 39.50. As the runners made their way to the finish Tracey Westlake came home in a creditable 52.46 secs with Phil Bentley beating Kev Taylor in the battle of the managers. Then it was back to the Victoria Social Club for the presentations.

Overall it was a great day for everyone involved with more than £1,000 pledged (and counting) beating last year's total.

The club would like to thank the non club members who participated, John Simpson for sponsoring the event and the Victoria Social Club for their hospitality and support.
