JOHN Rose of Station Road, Okehampton, was presented with his County Badge during an inter county match at Braunton. John, who plays bowls for Okehampton Simmons Bowling Club, is a keen bowler and regularly plays for his club in the Exeter and District League and in county Trophy matches as well as in the A squad in the 71 challenge shield. He also enters all the cup competitions and over the years has won many of them including the Simmons Championship, the A J Newcombe cup, the men?s and the mixed pairs, plus other wins.
Okehampton Simmons Bowling Club are delighted with the results from their over 60s team this year. With the A team finishing runners up to Topsham (one of the strongest teams in the county) in Division 4 while the B team in their first year in the same league finished in third place just 10 points behind the winners.
With 8 points being available for each game they were very close to making it a one-two for Okehampton.
Next year will see the A team playing in Division 3 while the B team have a very good chance of winning Division 4. The C team, after losing two of their senior members at the start of the season which gave them a poor start, made a good recovery in the second half to finish in mid-table of division 6.
With a full team from the start of next season promotion is possible for them in 2005.
