Tavistock Second XI v Brixham Second XI
TAVISTOCK returned to winning ways this weekend after an indifferent time recently.
This meant the match against recent high flyers Brixham needed a top notch performance.
Again skipper John McGahey won the toss and put Brixham into bat. The bowling was tight and accurate and James McGahey found enough movement to remove opener Clark for 0, thanks to a brilliant diving catch by wicket keeper Nick Goodchild. Matthewman and Thomas took the score onto 50 but it was very slow against a much improved attack. Hutchins came on and took two wickets in two balls, Brixham had slumped to 76 for 5. Matt Mills then came into the attack and removed four more batsmen. Only captain Simon Caunter showed any resistance making 20 in a late charge, after 46 overs Brixham had only scored 119.
In reply Tavistock lost Goodchild early, but this was the only scare. The return to club of Paul Tomkies was celebrated with a fine 68, he was well supported by Josh Stephens with 32.
It took Tavistock only 26 overs to overhaul Brixham and a vital 19 points were earned.
